The US is seeing a sharp drop in student visa approvals, raising red flags for families planning fall 2025 starts.

According to The PIE News, the US issued 22% fewer international student visas this May compared to last year. The decline began before the month-long freeze on visa interviews and has been especially severe in high-volume countries—visa issuances to Indian students are down 41%, and 15% for Chinese students.

Even with interviews resuming, many students face long delays, limited appointments, and growing concerns over “administrative reviews” linked to social media screening. Some US embassies are warning students they may not get visas in time for fall.

73% of US colleges are bracing for enrollment drops. While some countries show growth, overall uncertainty remains high.

We’re tracking these trends closely and helping students adjust timelines and build smart application strategies. The US is still a strong destination—but the process now demands earlier action and more flexibility.
