This CNN article highlights the recent trend of colleges reconsidering if they will require the SAT scores for admissions. As college counsellors, we continue to see firsthand how standardised tests can sometimes disadvantage talented students, particularly those from less privileged backgrounds. The SAT often favors those with access to extensive resources, leaving many bright students behind. As we know, many countries around the world don’t rely on the SAT for university admissions, and still uphold high academic standards – why is the US any different? I will continue to encourage colleges and universities to reconsider the role of the SAT in admissions to create a more equitable landscape for all students.
