As a country, Canada continues to have some growing pains in defining it’s mission regarding the education of international students, and recent changes in the economy and the planned reduction in the number of student visas to be issued continues to cause concern. There are multiple countries that have had to think carefully about how to shape and adjust their policies regarding international education, and Canada is no exception. The conference that the article mentions is a good place to start, and a statement from Immigration Minister Marc Miller and Prime Minister Trudeau about Canada’s support and commitment to Canada remaining a top quality place for international students to come for their university education would also be welcomed. Based on my work with international high school students, I am confident that interest will remain high despite these recent challenges.
